A Local Voice for Real Change
I'm Hugo Yates, 47, a husband and father of two. I've been living on the Island for the last 20 years. In that time I've run a business, got married, started a family and built a life here.
I'm a manager for part of the IT infrastructure for a multinational financial corporation — so I'm used to dealing with people and complex issues. I fell in love with the Isle of Man: its culture, its history, its people. I moved to Governors Hill nine years ago.
I'm standing for the 2026 House of Keys because I want to see the Island and its people thrive well into the future. I want a government that is not only reliable but dependable and approachable.
It's time for straight-talking and less political nonsense. I'm not going to promise you the Moon on a stick. Instead, I offer you my clear principles, which I will stand by and apply going forward.
I will hold monthly meetings with constituents — because government should work for the people, not itself.

Government Works for the People — Not Itself
A government that listens, puts residents first, and only passes well-considered legislation. Monthly constituent meetings, guaranteed.
Better Support for Families & Businesses
Encourage the best in our young people, help families afford homes, support our pensioners, and back local businesses.
Less Red Tape
Our frontline services are drowning in unnecessary bureaucracy. We must cut red tape so money and resources go where they're actually needed.
Strong Justice System
Proper sentences for serious criminals, effective rehabilitation, and more visible community policing throughout Douglas North.
Real Individual Freedom
Freedom of speech, freedom of choice, and the freedom to flourish. I will push back against Nanny State initiatives and excessive government interference.
Put the Isle of Man's Interests First
We are our own country with our own laws. Stop copying UK policies — make decisions based on what is genuinely best for the Isle of Man and its residents.
Practical Plans for Douglas North & Isle of Man
Healthcare
Improve the quality and cost of care with a strong focus on frontline services by cutting unnecessary red tape and administration.
Education
Ensure our children get the best possible start — investing in their futures and the Island's long-term prosperity.
Roads & Traffic
Get our roads back to a decent standard and improve traffic flow in Douglas and surrounding areas.
Steam Packet
Review whether it is truly serving the people or the government. Passengers and freight must always come first.
Transparency
Make government more open with regular public reporting and proper scrutiny — not hundreds of thousands spent on external consultants.
Housing
Work to ensure our children and young families have a realistic chance of affording a home here on the Island.
Immigration
Introduce proper controls that are fit for the Island — protecting housing, jobs, and services for the people who live here.
Energy Projects
Ensure energy projects deliver real financial and cultural benefit to the Isle of Man and its residents — not just outside interests.
